Prospective Lines of Activity for BERIEV Aircraft Company

BERIEV Aircraft Company is a modern enterprise with a unique 70-year experience in designing seaplanes and amphibians.

Principal lines of activity for BERIEV today comprise the following:

  • seaplanes and amphibians designing;
  • prototype aircraft manufacturing;
  • testing the prototype aircraft and placing them in series production, including participation in the series production of manufacturing of Be-200 amphibian;
  • designing flying vehicles for various purposes, among them - integration of AEW systems, including AEW aircraft final assembly, testing, and shipment to the Customer;
  • theoretical developments and experimental researches in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, avionics system engineering, strength of aircraft constructional materials;
  • upgrade and modification of the existing aircraft;
  • providing scientific and technical assistance in the course of aircraft operation and post-sales support at the Customer's facilities;
  • BERIEV Aircraft Company will continue to be involved in the organization of Gidroaviasalon international exhibitions and hydroaviation scientific conferences. Such exhibitions enable the experts and representatives of aerospace industry leaders to become acquainted with new developments in the following fields: theoretical and applied hydrodynamics and aerodynamics of seaplanes; strength and corrosion protection; the designing of special systems and equipment for maritime flying vehicles.

The principal strategy for BERIEV Aircraft Company to be followed in the near future and further in the long view, is defined by BERIEV top management as the formation of a modern diversified aircraft company with an architecture that would allow implementation of activities listed below, in addition to the above-mentioned traditional ones:

  • arrangement, on the basis of the existing enterprise, of appropriate entities that would engage in leasing activities related to operation of aircraft designed and owned by BERIEV Aircraft Company;
  • repair and upgrade of AEW systems currently in service with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation;
  • establishing international cooperation in the area of designing advanced transport vehicles, such as super-heavy "ekranolyots" (WIG aircraft) employed within the infrastructure of the existing sea ports and transportation systems;
  • development of amphibian aircraft to be used by international agencies and interstate entities for the elimination of consequences of natural and man-made disasters in coastal areas (search-and-rescue, transport, and ambulance amphibians).

Carrying out the above activities will add up to BERIEV's image of a leader in Russian and international maritime aircraft industry, and will contribute to creation of a closed-cycle hydroaviation center on the basis of the existing facilities.

At present, BERIEV infrastructure comprises the following:

  • development design bureaus;
  • flight test facility;
  • prototype production plant;
  • Gelenzhik test and experimentation base;
  • hydroaviation training center;
  • representative office and flight test team in Moscow.

In the course of aircraft design and development activities, BERIEV specialists employ leading-edge technologies related to CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM systems. Design engineers of BERIEV Aircraft Company are starting to implement design methods based on three-dimensional electronic models; CALS techniques are also being actively introduced into operation.

BERIEV possesses up-to-date facilities for aircraft static and fatigue tests. The well-equipped test and laboratory facilities of BERIEV Aircraft Company provide possibilities for the bench testing of principal design and configuration concepts of various aircraft systems and equipment. Besides, these facilities allow significant scope of research and development activities aimed at the designing, implementation, and operation of advanced seaplanes and amphibians.

BERIEV specialists engage in theoretical and experimental research in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, fluid mechanics, system engineering, strength of aircraft constructional materials. They also deal with problems of corrosion resistance, fatigue strength, and durability of materials used in the manufacturing of new-generation seaplanes.

BERIEV prototype production facilities allow fabrication of prototype aircraft as well as performing upgrade of aircraft designed by specialists of other design bureaus, and creating new modifications of such aircraft.

The prototype production personnel comprise experienced engineers and high-skilled workers. The machinery includes metal-working equipment for the turning, milling, boring, and finishing of all parts required for aircraft manufacturing. The foundry is capable of manufacturing products made of practically any ferrous and non-ferrous metals. A composite material product manufacturing section is also available.

Skilled specialists perform ground bench tests of avionic units and all aircraft systems.

Gelenzhik test and experimentation base possesses sufficient infrastructure for year-round sea trials and flight tests of seaplanes.

All the above enables BERIEV specialists to design high-quality sophisticated aircraft.
